Going skydiving for the first time can be an exhilarating experience, but you'll want to plan properly for this new adventure. Here are a few things you can do to prepare for your first time skydiving out of an airplane.

Practice at an Indoor Facility

If you are curious about how skydiving will feel, or if you want to make sure this experience is right for you, consider visiting an indoor skydiving facility first. These facilities use wind tunnels to mimic the sensation of falling through the air, and it can help prepare you for what you will feel when you jump out of an airplane for the first time. You may find that you love it so much that you can't wait to get up in the sky for real.

Dress Appropriately

As you pick out the clothing you will wear for your skydiving trip, be sure to choose clothes that are comfortable. Stretchy leggings or gym pants and a snug-fitting T-shirt can be perfect for skydiving. A pullover fleece jacket offers additional warmth for your trip. Select clothing that doesn't have strings, zipper toggles, or any other items that might fly around in the air and hit your body. For footwear, choose snug-fitting footwear that can be laced and tied securely. Loose-fitting shoes can come undone, leaving you to fly through the air barefoot.

Do Your Research

When you skydive for the first time, it will be in tandem with an experienced skydiver. For added peace of mind, do some research on the skydiving company you are going to use. Look to see how many years it has been in business, how other customers have reviewed the services, and what training the pilots and skydivers have. This can help you feel more comfortable about your first skydiving trip.

Eat Light

While you don't want to skydive on an empty stomach, you won't want to load up on a heavy meal first. Eat a light lunch or breakfast and refrain from alcohol before skydiving. Consider a salad, bottled water, and a sandwich for lunch, or opt for toast, eggs, and juice for breakfast. You don't need to alter your diet to go skydiving; simply eat healthy and smart. Remember that there may be some time between when you arrive at the skydiving facility and when you actually jump, so eating before you leave will prevent you from getting hungry while you wait.

Once you've signed up for skydiving, the company may provide you with more information about what you can expect from this first experience. Be sure to follow the advice, listen to the staff, and have plenty of fun.
